How Do Your Golf Swing Fundamentals Compare To That Of Others? The graphic below is a generality and is only meant to represent relative performance of golf swing fundamentals between golfers of different abilities (I'm using the term "fundamenatals" as it is generally used in golf). Also, for simplicity I have arbitrarily chosen the number 10 for the amount of fundamentals being considered (this number does not represent specific fundamentals). To help interpret the graphic, out of 10 fundamentals it is estimated that Tiger performs 4 of them almost perfectly (excellent rating) while the average tour player only performs 3 of them at this level and the scratch golfer only 1. If you average all of the scores for Tiger, his swing would rate between good and excellent, while the average tour player would be good and the scratch golfer OK. Keep in mind, the ratings are in relation to an absolutely perfect swing, so a rating of good is obviously a very fine golf swing and will only be found in world class golfers. As of 2011, Tiger's swing is significantly worse, so he would be lower on the graph at this time. The point of the graphic is to show that low handicap golfers, even scratch players, have a ton of room for improvement, and 10 to 15 handicap golfers aren't even in the ball park. I'm not trying to be mean, I would just like to see more golfers dedicate themselves to improving their swings so that they can become much better. The problem is, most of these golfers seem to think their swings are much better than they really are. If they would just realize that their swings are bad and dedicate themselves to a multi-year swing improvement program, rather than just a one week or one month binge, they could improve dramatically!
